Soldiers must receive the mandatory pre-separation counseling and complete DD Form 2648-1, Pre-separation Counseling Checklist for Reserve Component Soldiers Released from Active Duty, prior to returning to home station. Soldiers in the AGR program and Army Reserve Soldiers mobilized for 180 days or more of continuous active duty service are required to begin transition services. Soldiers that complete their IIC, individual self-assessment, and Capstone in each succession with no change in tier level are exempt for 36 months from date of completion. Starting August 29, 2022, all Service members planning to transition must register online and complete a self-assessment before contacting their local TAP Center or Virtual Center. Reserve component Soldiers with more than 180 days of continuous service but less than 365 days of mobilization must complete the self-assessment and individualized initial counseling during pre-mobilization, or as soon as possible thereafter.
